REDSAW

😡

just been to price a job, indirect 900x450 cylinder.
the cylinder is in a tight space behind all pipe work and pumps etc, and maybee the door frame will have to be knocked about if stripping the lagging of dont work.

thought to myself do as normall including extra labour just to get the job as its been thin on the ground lately and for the last 2 weeks not been paid for any work😡.

£375 all in luv.

the reply was, oh thats all right then. i have been quoted £250 from someone who has just started out on his own, thanks anyway.😱😡.

its bad enough beeing under-cut by 50% let alone wasting my time and fuel.

anyone else experiencing this at the moment or do i need to find the nearest tree and a hemp rope?.😕

no its not just you red saw, weve been to a few jobs and the customers said this, thing is how are these people doing the job PROPERLY for the price quoted????

same here, theres a lot working for nothing, who you know are chancers.i always say to my customers if they want to get another quote make sure they have public liability ins, ideally gsr,and explain that there are a lot chancers, and have been called out to make good so called plumbers work right

things are not that bad.......thier worse!!!!! maybe this is the lull before the storm!!

Did one in February and it was arkward replaced cylinder took me all day and i charged customer £400.00 which i thought was a good price for the customer mind you quoted another the following week the same price and never heard from them so i take it they got it done cheaper

the cylinder and parts alone must come to 170.00 roughly how can the tw3t be doing it for 80.00
i priced up a job rip out backboiler move rad to other side of room trv on 7 rads wireless stat and controller 30cdi w/bosch and couldnt get near the quote of 2100.00 someone put in people are working for peanuts and still people pipe up(exuse the pun)i am on my 6 week course and am going self employed as a plumber how much do you think i will earn🙁

easily 6k for that newbie, especially if youve been on the 6 week course😀😕

its a dog eat dog world, people just throwing in real low quotes just to get the work, hoping it will get them more work, Bathrooms are being fitted for £100 around here in Rochdale, its a joke

Well i aint workin for that no chance on this planet cheeky gits i have been on a 7 week course 8 in total have now finished and set up on my own and i am not workin for the same money as a tesco worker every little helps but as a competent person i would rather not do it and get the prices pushed back up to where they should be. Amen and goodnight.

Let The Masses Pay Peanuts and Let Them Get The Monkey's They Deserve!!!!!!!

try to get in with your local council, police or another authority. they are now "saving" money by repairing everything - so its non stop call outs! why spend 5k on a new boiler/burner when you can spend 15k over 3 years repairing the thing - also helps reduce the deficit??

survey in a couple of weeks, its seasoned one.

been to a primary school today (single building 100' sq), they have just had new doors and windows £75,000 and the window fitters installed a kitchen sink for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I quoted a mixer tap for £40 and the bloke asked me to do it for £30. He called me about it when I was passing near by and I was in his kitchen 5 mins later. I told him £40 on the phone but in person he became the haggle-monster. I did it for £30 in the end because I was already there standing in his kitchen. I've never done one faster though. Might have been 15 mins all-in? It kind of gets you in a state of mind where you're thinking "ok, here's your £30's worth"

I went out to one the other day that was passed to me from another engineer that does not like breakdowns. I spent 45mins on site fault finding and identified the fault and told the customer I would ring with a price for the repair later once I rang the parts place. Called back and gave her a price and said let me know by the morning so I can get the part and fit it etc.

4 Days later nothing, so popped a bill for £40 in the post for my time, travelling and diagnosing fault etc. 10 days later, no payment so I rang her and I got this reply:

" I've never paid for a plumber to come around and look at anything before and it seems naughty you are trying to charge me £40"

NAUGHTY!! I explained I was not a charity and that my time needs to be paid for etc etc.

The thing is, her boyfriend was watching me the whole time, and I'm 99% certain he has gone and bought the part and fitted himself.

It's not the money but the principle and I can't stand people taking the p*ss.

Some times I wonder why I bother, it often seems like those who are making money are the ones carrying out gas work illegally with a slap dash approach and who only use pay as you go mobiles that they change often.

Bathrooms are being fitted for £100 around here in Rochdale, its a joke
Do they have bathrooms in Rochdale!!,that Mike Harding always looks like he could do with a wash 😀😀

Probably just fitting a outside tap on wall with metal tub underneath and commode in corner
£100 not bad, seeing how average wage is only 6 shillings and six pence up there, for 18 hr shift down pit
Yee by gum, the good old days or yet to come the way things are going 🙁
When I keep hitting time waste quotes, they always come when you least need them ,I put on me moral boosting tape, from me, “how to keep going when you keep getting kicked in the proverbials" home course I bought in the last recession in the eighties, pritty worn out now but does the trick

Trouble is when you are quite, you tend to go to quotes and jobs, that normaly you would steer clear of as you can sense time wasters, but when quite, you think ,I will just pop in and see what happens but it can be soul distroying.
In the past,I have even thought ,I can cut a corner here and there to cut costs, then you get the job and when you are doing it you think,no can not cut this or that corner, not worth it, will have to do right,so you end up loosing anyway

i went to a breakdown told him it was the circuit board and he said oh ok i will do that myself tks😡😡

Well the lesson there is tell them your fees b4 u lift a finger give a diagnosis etc etc.
Being kicked in the proverbials tends to hurt so steer clear.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! call out fee to be paid on diagnosis of the problem that agreed prior to turn up and you both know where you stand!!!!!!!! this does not apply to quote i was nearby and then standing in the kitchen for £30 haggled down from £40

few years ago gave a price to a guy at the local locksmiths to take out small whb and relocate and install corner basin and pipe up told him70 quid
they supplied materials he said but you could do it for 60 I replied yes but I am not going to his boss said just do it and laughed I got job boss was happy other guy got needle I found out later he used to be double glazing salesman ...well I never🙂
