Hi,

I'm not a plumber and here to seek your advice on the best filling valve for toilet cistern.

I have ideal standard toilet which was leaking and it's mow fixed after the insurance company sent in a plubmer. He replaced the new filling valve the one with plastic tube for quiet filling (similar to what I had).

However, the filling up time takes slightly longer than my old one and when it's finish filling up it makes a sound when it stops. Not that loud but it wasn't sleek as it used to be.

I noticed on my old filling valve it has "quiet ball valve", I guess this might has something to do with it being quiet when it stop. I don't know what make my old one was. There is no brand stamp.

I contacted the insurance company and he said will send the plumber but when plumber called me to check on problem detail and make appointment he said the company only provide basic one so if I want anything better then I have to get it and they can come to replace it for me.

I found some websites and forums mentioned about problems with Torbeck brand but they were posted few years ago so not sure if improved.

Basically I would like to get a new bottom fit filling valve with quiet filling and quiet when fill is stop.

I would be much appreciated if you could recommended make and model. Please!

Thank you,

Sam

ps. Sorry for long winded post but want to give you some info why I'm searching for this.

stay away from torbeck, graham merchant supply them, not keen on any with a cup float. never really had the need to fit a quiet filling valve. there are a few decent ones, alot depend on your water pressure, try siamp adjustable from toolstation.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Our toilet is near the bedrooms and at night we can hear it's filling up, which is not that loud coz it's already quiet fill but it takes longer to fill so the fill noise last longer. Then when it stop that's when it makes the noise.

If anyone has more suggestions please do leave the message here.

Thanks again.

Oh by the way, for those who have used FluidMaster, please advise how long before you have to start opening the cistern to clean up, or replacing the valve seal due to problem with valve won't turn on or shut off or fill takes too long. I saw this troubleshooting section in the instruction on their website.

We do not put any detergent in the cistern. My old one has been there for probably more than 5 years.

Thanks.

Get the fluid master pro from plumfix (screwfix for trade ) about £8 .

cant recall going back to a fluidmaster

tehy are equilibrium valves, part 4

ie, not your standard ball valve

they fill at full flow until desired depth is met

£8 will be well spent
