City & Guilds 6217

Chase Plumbing Academy are now running the City & Guilds 6217 Basic Construction Award.

This involves domestic plumbing and wall / floor tiling. It's a 6 week course where you will cover all domestic plumbing including bathroom installation and wall / floor tiling including natural stone and under tile heating.

To add to that, you will also get your BPEC Water Regulations 1999 qualification.

You can also do part of the award and get units of credit for what you have learn't. (Plumbing or Tiling).

This is becoming very popular in colleges across the UK, and is aimed at Domestic Plumbers / Tilers / Bathroom Fitters. At the snip of the cost of doing the usual 6129.

The qualification has been approved by the QCA, so it is a recognised industry qualification across the UK. It can help you towards securing work or progress onto further qualifications in the trade.

This is only a level 1 qualification and has nowhere near the same amount or level of work as the 6129. it is what it is, a very basic low level qualification

Your absolutely right, and centres that are city & guids accredited are using it to quantify their current short domestic plumbing courses. Ideal for Bathroom fitters and wet domestic plumbers that have no interest in site work or sheet lead weathering etc

hello guys i hope some one can give me real advise and not be nasty about it. as some plumbers refuse to help and in fact ive seen posts where some one has asked for advise but got nothing but abuse i supose some plumbers regard people getting into plumbing as competition.

any way here goes im looking for a career been working in call centers for the past 3 years previous to that i did college studing film and graphic design which went no where previous to that i was doing mig welding and fabrication and manufacturing. any way im looking to train up but looking at the nvq structure it could take 5 years if i did it part time. their is a course being run by dewsbury town hall paid by the job center im going for an interview on the 18th. but its only run for 37 weeks. running for just 2 days a week i need advise how can i get to be a plumber i have applied on some apretance courses with kirklees council and leeds homes but not hered any thing for months.

please could you advise me im 30 unemployed and wondering if the course is any good even if i get on it as i supose many people will be going their and i think their will be a test to do. im a little dyslexic so i hope the test is not too hard.

i would like to here from real plumbers in the trade and students. if you can post a reply i be very gradeful if you do can you state if your a student or a fully qualifyed plumber and thanks for your advise.

my advice would be not to come into plumbing, there have been far too man trained over the past years and not enough work to go round. people still listen to threads and press from /6 years ago when there was a building boom and very little trainees. that wasnt as much the case as they made out then and definatly not now, the wages are average and the work is also, if you want a good trade i would look at plastering as they earn good wages recently. the cleanist is prob elec

Hi there, considering doin a course that offer the c+g 6022, c+g 6032, citb unvented hot water and the bpec water regs. Just wondered if anyone could tell me if these are recognised quals to go out on site and do the job. If it helps the course is at the skills centre. Ash

6022 is basic copper pipe work 6032 is bathroom design and installation. if thats all your getting (as well as water regs and unvented) then i take it your only doing 3 weeks. this is pretty worthless as far as qualifications go. i am also at the skills centre but i am doing 6 weeks and will qualify for what you will and city and guilds 6128. this again is pretty worthless and it provides no real experience. employers look for experience. to prove your experience you must, after gaining 6128 or 6129 do nvq levels 2 and 3 which involves an nvq assessor visiting your placement or if self employed, you on the job, and assessing your skills. team this with 4-5 years experience and away you go.
i too was sold a bull**** story by a man in a nice suit who led me to believe i pay my money, learn my books and qualify as a plumber. its far from the truth but it hasnt put me off, im currently trying to find unpaid work with an experienced plumber and trying to build up my portfolio for my nvqs.

paulproject glad to hear you havent given up i completed my 6129 in november and did part P full scope in december got a couple of bits of renewables to complete this week then i am going out on site with friends (plumbing and electrics) so i can try and learn more about both,i am looking forward to completing my nvq and intend on doing the nvq 3 then moving onto maybe hnc in construction in the mean time im hoping to set up a small business which i belive will bring me in a larger income than doin some crummy job somewhere.ive been self employed before doing general property maintenance and enjoyed it but after reaching 30 decided on a change.
it is hard work and you have to put yourself out there in as many places as pos
but it will be wqorth it in the end.
the more you learn after that the more you can earn
