I've now got a folder on my computer solely for my amusement. When I'm at home doing admin I tend to catch the odd cold caller trying to sell me something. So I politely say: -

'sorry, can I put you though to the owner of the business? I'm just going to put you on hold for a minute!'

Then start to play sound effects from the speaker of my computer, holding the phone nearby.

Today's 1st was to see how long someone would wait on hold for to Vivaldi's 4 Seasons - Summer. Bearing in mind they called me on a mobile you would think they would know I can't transfer them with music to a landline! 4 mins 56 seconds before they hung up.

2nd caller telling me they had 'jobs waiting' on their website, as long as I paid them a monthly fee... Got put through to chewbacca who started making random roaring and grunting noises in response to them. He hung up pretty quick sadly!

I ignore their questions and ask those of my own, like -
"how're you?"
"what's the weather like there?"
"i'm thinking of a change of direction, any vacancies?"
"i like the sound of you, can I have your private number?"

Or I say "hold on, hold on!" And put the phone on the side, going back every few minutes, "you still there? Hold on a minute!"

Or I let them go through the entire sales pitch, then ask them to go through it again because I'm 'taking notes this time', question every little detail then tell them I've already got one.
