Hello people, I have a problem and I wondered if I could pick your brains. I have a column radiatior with a thermostatic rad valve on the left and some sort of regulator valve on the right. The pipework leading into the right is red hot, but the far right "strand" of the radiator is only tepid and all the others (about 8) are stone cold. I have bled the radiator and cleaned the rad valve out with a miniature bottle brush and can see the moving bit moving. The copper pipework leading to thermostatic rad valve is cold. Any ideas would be gratefully received, the room was only 7 C and it's getting a bit boring.
many thanks !

From what you say it sounds like an airlock in the return. (The heating flow goes into the trv and the heating return out via the lockshield.)

Quickest way to try and clear this (although it's not a 100% certainty because it could be something else) is to turn all the trvs off the other radiators when the pump/central heating is on.

Another possibilty is the radiator itself is blocked. In which case you can remove the radiator to outside and flush it out with a hosepipe.

many thanks, I'll chunter off and try this - to add insult to injury my hot water bottle (yes I know, retrograde technology) decided to spring a leak as well.

YES YES YES !!!! It worked !!!! I can't believe something so simple could make so much difference. Once all the trv's were off the problem cleared in minutes and it has continued to give heat once all others back on. You are a star.
regards

Well done - and it doesn't always work like this but nice when it does. Thanks for the feedback.
