My shower is throwing out cold water even tho it is completly open, it is fed thru a gas combi boiler.. All other taps in the house are producing hot water, what recommendations does any1 have to solve the problem

What type of shower do you have?

If you have an electric shower, it sounds like your element is away. If it is a thermostatic mixer, it could be the thermostat is away or a blockage.

I know the shower. It's a thermostatic mixer. The thermostat could be away or a blockage. There is too much cold to hot ratio.

the only way I could describe it is ' a chrome round wall mounted mixer, the further left you rotate it the warmer it gets'! is this the type you are thinking of?

Before you go buying a new thermostatic replacement, remove the shower valve and there should be some filters inside the two nuts. It could just be a bit debris in them that needs cleaning out.

If this is the case, just clean out the filters and put them back in. But if you have been turning the thermostat without the control knob on, you will need to re-calobrate the temperature. You should have the information on how to do this in the instructions that came with the valve (if you kept them).

You should have a cold water gate valve/stopcock where it enters the property. Various places that could be. Under the kitchen sink, toilet etc. Fail on that, it will need to be turned of at the Toby outside your property.

With you having a combi, that should shut off your cold & hot supply.

Depending who fitted your bathroom, you may have isolation valves purely for the shower

Just mind, if you cannot find the stopcock in the property & require to use the Toby, you'll need a Toby key & 9 times out of 10, if full of crap.

You should be able to get just a new thermostat from Mira via a plumbers merchant. As your a combi, it shouldn't matter if it is fully open at the mains. If pressure was too low the boiler wouldn't kick in & if it did, the mixer would regulate to suit. If it were non thermostatic with low pressure & boiler came on, it would be too hot, not Luke warm.

yes fully anticlockwise. i was thinking that if it was on too much the boiler wouldn't be heating the water as hot because of the lower temp of mains at this time of year, so turning the flow down to see if water got hotter. just me rambling lol.

Well it is a broken thermostat. As I said, goto a plumbers merchant & see if you are able to order just that part. You can also contact Mira direct but they may only distribute the part to a supplier. Price on part can vary & sometimes it can actually be cheaper to buy the whole shower. 136.50 for a new valve online -
