Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong area.

2 storey house, combi downstairs, cold water tank in loftwhich is leaking via the overflow.

Question is, do I still need the cold water tank?

As you may have guessed my plumbing knowledge is minimal.

Thanks in advance.

It all depends what it serves/ Cold water down service? or should everything else be now on the mains water supply and the installer couldn't be bothered in decommissioning the stored water?

The piccy shows the ball valve tied up. This suggests it was left in after combi fitted, its not
feeding anything and its just the ball valve leaking a bit .

Find the on/off valve for tank - should be nearby and check turned off. Then siphon or bale
out the water in tank - if something in house stops working - call Mr. Plumb

Centralheatking

Thanks for your reply,

I don’t know what that means “cold water down service” If I run the taps upstairs the water in the tank doesn’t drop!!!
I believe everything is now on mains and am guessing as you say the installer couldn’t be bothered decommissioning…

Is there anything else I can check before capping off before the water tank…?

Thanks again.

Cheers centralheatking,

The on/off valve for the tank, the one at the bottom rightof the picture is seized..

What would the procedure be to shut off the water and capthe pip below the tank?

1. Turn stopcock off
2. Switch Combi off?
3. Drain water out of cold tank
4. Cut pipe and cap off?????
5. stopcock on?
6. Combi on?

Thanks
kris

turn water off, turn boiler off.
open every tap and flush every toilet to make sure its not feeding anything.
get a long hose pipe, run between bath and tank and syphon the water out.
cap cold supply to tank.
turn water back on.
check for leaks/any issues
turn boiler back on, run all taps etc to mek sure all is well.

If the ball valve is tied up it can't be feeding anything, was it tied up before the problem started or was it tied up before you had the prob, surely whoever fitted the tank would fit a blank cap on the supply rather than tie the ball valve up

Didn't have a stopend in my saddle bag ! Soz has install been registered with gas safe? Has te benchmark been completed? Do you have a thermostat and a programmer? If couldn't be bothered to remove header did it get commissioned? Is the flue cemented up behind rubber gaskets (as it comes through wall?)
