We are going away for a few weeks early next year and intend leaving the boiler on 24 hour with the room stat set to the frost symbol in case of frost. Is it safe to also turn off the mains stopcock as a precaution against the mains feed pipes freezing? Any other suggestions to keep our home safe from burst pipes/water damage would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if it was my house, id drain down the heating, hot and cold pipes, run an airline through the pipes to remove the water and stick some anti freeze down every waste trap..

Overkill for a couple of weeks. Cold water off at the main and heating on low should be fine.

Yep as mike above says, if we are away for one night , I always turn off our water

Thanks Mike. When you say heating on low do you mean setting the stat on the 'frost' symbol or something a bit higher?
