Hi, I am just after some advice on my Glow worm Combi Compact 80e.
Background-
The boiler started to drop pressure a few weeks ago and required occasional topping up. I searched everywhere I could for leaks on the rads,[pipes etc. Nothing found as yet. It got worse and I consulted a combi specialist Engineer. It was diagnosed as low pressure in expansion chamber, so this was re-pressurised. Only, when this was done on switching on the boiler, no power . This was then traced to the control board! evidence of burn marks on a group of resistors and had to be replaced to get the boiler working again. An unexpected cost for the pressure problem which, when working again, was still happening. The engineer then replaced the PRV, there was signs of droplets from the water out-fall pipe. However, the water pressure is still dropping but what is also occurring, is that when you run the hot water and then turn off the tap, there is then loud gurgling noises, the pressure gauge jumps up and down, so for a while the pressure can seem ok again and then it falls and I have to still top it up. It sounds like an air lock situation ? This only happens with the domestic hot water, I have tried bleeding for air and all ok. Behind pump there is an automatic air valve.
The pump runs on for central heating for a couple of minutes but there is no over run on HW to dissipate. This is normal according to manufacturer who the engineer had rung, so therefore nothing to do with the new C Board not working correctly. I'm already appx 300 spent, it is the second c board in 4 years also. A new boiler is something I will get next year in summer, as it is becoming un-economical it seems but if there is anyone who knows of a cure or fix of what may have gone wrong, especially if tt is an oversight of something simple, I would be really grateful?
