Hi lads,

Someone asked me about this today and I was not really sure how to answer it. This person has a combi, but wish to connect a unvented cylinder to this for flow rate reasons.

I've never thought about this, and there is probably good reason is it not common practice. I can understand the flow pipe being zoned to cylinder via programmer.

Anyone heard of this before?

It is possible to convert a combi to a system boiler i believe.
However you would undoubtedly negate any warranty.

How big is the property? And what is the budget. Alpha cd50 is a combi with a built in unvented cylinder. Massive thing size of a washing machine. Could be worth a look. Only 50litre i think but impressive heat recovery and awesome flow rate

No reason for it to negate the warranty. No different to zoning a combi as far as the wiring back to the combi goes.

I did one recently. Customer moved into a property with a combi but not enough flow rate so I fitted a 150l unvented to the system for them. This solution was actually suggested to them by Worcester.

Went to a job a commercial guy had put in a few years back ... He'd fitted an unvented cylinder and combi on the same hot water supply! Why? I thought! Crackin hot water supply though!!

done a few like this combi feeding kitchen sink and cylinder bathroom . tee the heating flow and do an s plan one zone for htg other for cylinder but remember to fit an auto bypass - boiler works like a system boiler but kitchen has instant hw from combi.same principle for twin htg zones on combi
