That's an important fact, you should always keep in mind what the customer can afford, what's is his expectation, what system you have got, is it necessary to convert the system.

Definitely you should always speak first to the customer to find out what he really wants, once you know then you can give some preferred and detailed advises. You could tell him the advantage and disadvantages of few boiler and the difference between the system boiler and a combi boiler.

I do not have a preference. It all pays my mortgage. Which means me and the wife are both happy.

I hate to say it but... the customer is always right! If they have spent weeks/months googling and researching what is best for them without anyone 'experienced or qualified' having set eyes on their situation, then you can quickly talk yourself out of a job, with certain types, if you try and advise them differently.
Read the customer before you way up the mechanics

I personally dont like system boilers i find them quite restrictive and would rather size the pump and expansion vessel and boiler output to suit the system but it all depens on the space available and if it can be sited there , combi for combi swaps can be a good earner but i always allow 3 days but thats just me i always try and give my customers the best possible system they can have for their budget which will serve them well and save them money on running cost . cheers kop

I like system boilers when fitting a couple of boilers to a low loss header, but the customer needs a big budget for that .... as others say it's about what the customer wants vs what they can afford ... I tend to find flow rate is a biggie, i'll come to customers who have had their cylinder and system/ heat only boiler removed by an installer and replaced with a combi and are now wondering why they have less flow than before at their outlets ... I've found that I've started fitting quite a few accumulators in recent years
