commercial expansion vessel

Hi I'm a domestic engineer and I'm now moving onto commercial work I have leaks coming from 3 big expansion vessels and I think they are leaking from the top were 1 has a leaking blank end 1 has a quarter turn valve and one has nothing on it. As there is water there at all I believe the diaphragm is broke and needs replaced but as these are different from domestic vessels I don't know what should be on the top connection, is it just to be blanked off ? Or open ended. I hope the pictures help you understand what I'm trying to say any advice would be great thanks guys.

They should be open. The diaphragm's had it if you're getting water there. You get a dull thud when you tap the vessel yes?

They've not been maintained properly and so now need replacing.

Ah interesting seems so strange they just get left with open ends do you know the reason for this ? Thanks for your help by the way

Open end is a bit of a misnomer. They actually have a plug inside.

you can get a new bladder replacement for that vessel, looks like a 300ltr, the tube type bladder is connected to the bolted flange at the bottom and tank connector type lock nut (350) at the top under the top plate shown in pic.

maybe worth trying to tighten the top lock nut where water is escaping first

For the price it's usually quicker and cheaper to replace the entire unit

but here comes the but...more money imo for installer by replacing bladder usually same cost for coustmer and same result. ive only replaced a bladder once but replaced countless vessels.

Likewise I've replaced a bladder once. Never again!
