a good article puddle,who was it on here a while back saying he was still fitting baxi 105 se combis mbear i think none of those had the problems of their he brothers think people will hang on to their bermudas and other se boilers,the articles wrong about increasing to 32mm and lagging one of my installs still froze solid just harder to de frost,and this had 80mm of lagging!

Do you think they's ever make it law that they have to be run inside and use condense pumps to pump it to nearest sink waste? Its the only way I could see it never freezing.

And not install the condense boilers in freezing roof and garage areas - thats where most of our money has been made over xmas.

i doubt it,imagine boiler on top floor,bathroom on top floor,cant run it gravity as wastes higher than joists so you go trough the atic with a pump still has the potential to freeze, i think trace heaters are the way forward if they work

Trace heaters are a great bit of kit - seen a few of them installed now and the customers have never had a problem with freezing pipes. I just don't think they have been advertised well enough - I had never heard of them until I saw on.

Im not sure trace heaters are the answer, just another electrical part to go wrong or to be fitted incorrectly and not do their job.

Simple, basic boilers have got to better, with parts that last. The government have got to admit they have messed up!

tbh if its a internal run very few issues but sometimes thats not possible if trace heaters work(and are fitted correctly) they may well be the solution,bring back se boilers!!!!!!!!!1

On the parts issue though, I think the problem is that when a condenser does go wrong, fault finding on the parts is a lot more difficult than a standard boiler.

So how many thousands of parts that are changed, dont need to be, I know I have chucked a few on!

and i agree BCG look at the performa he for example simple combi yes the recupirator may blow if dirty system,x800 used,but at £57 inc to buy does not right it off,(and out off 200 installs had 4 fail),then the duo tec and even vailents stainless steel heat exchanger not affected by conden issues,but i do believe aluminium silicate is not up to the job,and conden run issues are all resolvable we have 2 options re route or trace heating

how hard can it be to fit a trace heater????? simple kit, should now come as standard with the boiler, maybe a simple 'click' system of instal, one for the manufacturers

I like pete of leics who commented in the mails comments bit that he fitted his own boiler and has had no issue and had a plumber done it they would have been in a hurry etc, etc, prehaps gas safe should have a chat with him and his ilk. Otherwise the bulk of what the article stated is true, why bin a working boiler or car it doesnt help the co2 footprint, parts are costly, boilers dont last as long (nor do cars),boilers wont work as well on normal rad setups and were designed with low temp output systems in mind ie wall or underfloor heating and they can be a pain to work on. Hence why this bloke popped in a non condensing boiler while he could some years back and has been chuffed he did ever since (probably breakdown tommorrow having said that!!) omho

I agree with Oldplumber and did just the same with my own home. Non condensers are they still available ? cause I'd do it again
