No. This is ONE of the PAIR of basin taps that were installed instead of new cartridges.
The black plastic you can see are the tap's back nut!

Diy on a Sunday when everywhere is shut and the swmbo is standing there with the rolling pin looking menacing

Somebody has been desperate for a quick fix!
It would never occurred to me that you could screw a basin tap straight into a 1/2” threaded modern bath mixer.
Just proves you learn something every day.
Not sure I wanted to learn that though.
I suppose they could have taken the new basin taps apart and just put the works and heads into the bath mixer.

Correct. As these are conventional valves they would have fitted right in.
