Control Radiator

Hi Our control radiator is in the bathroom which is the best place but I can't get the temperature right it's either too warm or not warm enough. I'm constantly fiddling with it when the weather changes. We're having a new combi system next week and it would be a good time to fit a TRV in the bathroom as well but is it still considered bad practice even with a combi boiler?

By control radiator I assume you mean a radiator that acts as bypass in system. Although combi will have internal bypass many heating engineers still prefer to see an additional, external bypass. Any TRV on rad could close it down and prevent it acting as a bypass.

Thanks for that. You say some engineers still prefer not to fit a TRV. Does this mean that some do and it's more to do with tradition rather than an operating requirement. If one shouldn't be fitted can you please suggest a way of getting a more even temperature in the bathroom...without having to open the window!

I would fit TRV in the bathroom so it stops irritating you and whilst installing the new combi, install an automatic bypass (22mm if it's an average domestic with a good 10 foot or more of pipe if poss ). A lot of new boilers have an internal bypass but I always fit an external too. In my opinion, the internal bypass valve on most boilers is too small and therefore a waste of space, in my opinion !
