most of the time the copper doesnt need cleaning almost all fluxes are now self cleaningi f it needs cleaning wire wool

Sorry Steve, but on modern plumbing courses (even fast track ones) it is no longer taught to use wire wool for cleaning copper tube. (Regs Part G I believe).

The reason being that any wire (steel actually) residue left in joints will contribute to contamination within a CH system leading to corrosive by-products.

Personally I prefer the little carborundum strips that are now available or the black abrasive pads that are bit like Scotchbrite. But to be fair,,,I place great trust in self cleaning solder.

Hi Sanke
I've got the rothenberger pipe cleaners-to be honest don't use them that much. You can also try the green dishwashing pads from supermarkets like the flat rectangular ones.

I think one of the reasons for not using the steel wool is a health and safety issue to do with pulling bits of the wool apart. What did people do before the days of 'elf n safety, how did they survive?!!!!

I was told this a few weeks back about cleaning copper as I always clean fitting and pipe but the guy I was working with said its new. But for me its become a habit clean clean and clean again.

coka cola ... no steel wool or flux needed..

Yes, but most homes now have electricity and even fitted carpet. And generally speaking they have done away with all that nasty lead pipe.

It was great in the old days,,,they had lots of things we don't have any more,,,,like rickets,,,,diptheria,,,,,,,,slavery,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.

Barry Scott has something that might work, never tried it myself tho :)

I have two strips of emery paper glued to the top of my bum cracks, which are exposed when I bend down and my jean tops lower,I just throw the copper tube over my sholder and give it a little twist between my bum cheeks and away you go,if the copper tube is badly stained,I do a few wet farts and turn emery into wet and dry, soon cleans tube ends up,just try not to follow through as can lead to pipework blockages.which can cause alot more problems than a bit of highly corrosive, system distroying wire wool dna fragments

Lmfao!!!!!!

Oh that cracks me up (no pun intended)
