I've got a 15mm drain off to install to my central heating and all I can find really is a compression tee to fit the drain off, which looks a little chunky.

Can I solder the brass drain off into a copper end feed tee, or will I have to settle with the compression tee?

Thanks.

i've done them this way. as jts said remember to remove the washer beforehand otherwise it will melt!

Most important thing is the ensure it's at the lowest point on the system. Flow or return doesn't really matter.

lowest point of the system you can get it best drain offs are through the wall to outside that way it dont matter how much it leaks and you can drain lower

When you solder it in make sure the molten solder cant run down into the threaded bit or you wont be able to re-fit the washer.

So true....and so rare. I love an external drain off. Infact I'm going to fit one tomorrow as it's a perfect opportunity to do so, and make some future plumber a happy chappy.

You would think those external draincocks would be at risk of freezing & bursting in low temperatures, but they never seem to!

No. True. They're bloody great. Every house should have one as standard.

I used to fit them all the time back in the 80's, but I suppose with an internal isolator it would work.
The problem I envisage is the next plumber does not know its there

The drain off on my system is under a trap hatch in the cupboard under the stairs. It's a 1/4 turn lever valve with the outlet piped out to the gully in the front. A complete drain down takes minutes and not a hose in sight.

I can't describe how happy I am when I find a external drain :) usually because I've spent the few minutes before thinking that there isn't one fitted to the system

These make me a very happy chap!
Unfortunatey I haven't come across one in a long while...
