hi
have got a job to plumb in a dishwasher - however the waste siuation is a bit tricky

the p trap is copper and goes straight on to copper waste pipe.

what is the best way to connect the waste hose - would one of the slef cutting clamps work that are used for over flows?

i Would replace the trap with a plastic one with spigot, run some waste in plastic if possible and connect it to the copper with plastic compression coupler.

can you just replace the trap with one with a w/m spigot, or is the smaller

you can use plastic pushfit on the copper it should fit, or a varifit compression tee, or if space is that tight I cant see why you couldnt fit one of those mcalpine clamps that yopu pre drill a 20 mm hole in the copper pipe and then join the 2 parts of the clamp over it with the rubber seal.

i think the thread is smaller on the copper (i may be wrong) you shouldnt need to replace much of the pipe just enough to get a coupler in with plastic pipe to put the new trap in.

I agree with the post above in using a plastic trap and a multi-fit connector, just check the pipe diameter though, copper waste in homes is often 11/4" (32mm) rather than 11/2" (40mm) which it should be. Would replace the lot personally, but I dont know the job or how much would need changing.

the trap joins the waste pipe which disappears thru the wall - it is soldered to the pipe by what looks like a solder ring coupler so replacing it could be tricky as the coupler is the last visible part

I would rip the lot out and replace with plastic........................ Then a fast trip to the scrapyard to claim me beer tokens!!!!!!

thanks guys - just to update i cut off the pipe on the other side of the wall and replaced with plastic!!!

when fitting the valve for the dishwasher the isolation valve for the cold water supply started dripping on the wrong side and after an hour of searching for a stop tap in very large old building without any luck had to do a live fix as it were = talk about squeeky bum time!!!!!

what, tweaked it up tighter? because doing any more than that to a fitting on mains pressure is a bit on the risky side.

also how much did copper cost in the old days, nothing? all these copper wastes, those pipe sizes now would cost a billion quid.
