I tell you what Dave, on this one there's a 750mm void between ground floor & first (bungalow converted to hoose).

The thick slab reduces the vibration noise transmission by an extraordinary amount. The bigger the slab the better. The void acts as a resonance chamber otherwise.
I live in a flat and play the drums. I have a special quiet kit but to improve things I made a 'tennis ball riser' which is basically 2 sheets of ply with tennis balls in between and then things like carpet squares and gym-type rubber mats as well. Saw a couple of youtube videos measuring sound before and after and it seemed to make a good difference, particularly the low end which is what carries the most
Would I have been better off just putting down some paving slabs?
