Hi, Please can someone give me some advice, i just tried to get Corgi registered but was told i need to prove that i have had some practical training IE worked on gas, i did have some when i past Acop 13 years ago but not that much in the last 5 years. And have past ACS ccn1 and cen1. My question is what do i do now, i am in tootle limbo. Help

As far as i'm aware........Captiva have the registration for gas as from april 1st...corgi have lost the tender for gas...

Ive had a simmilar problem when i moved onto site work i let my corgi lapse and they said i had to do some proven work mine had only lapsed for 1 year so i fitted a couple of gas cookers and a boiler and basicly got it inspected and i was back on again i think corgi like to have you under there thumb wether youre fitting gas appliances and pipework or not I dont no wether this helps or not but good luck.
lets hope the gas safe register is going to be more simple.

HI, can anybody help me with trying to build a work portfolio, so that i can get gas safety registered, i live in East Sussex but would travel, to London or Kent Surrey at least one day a week and would work for free.
I WOULD BE VERY GREATFULL FOR ANY HELP I COULD GET.

hello i talked the other day about my past with corgi have a chat with them tommorrow

I know this may sound ignorant but ive always been corgi registered 20 years about but its always ****ed me that i can fit a boiler in a house for a company and do the same job next door privately and be against the law . I appreciate all trades men have to be vetted but i think weve been nailed for the last thirty years or so .I ve ot my own corgi but until we get a bit of support from the retailers there will always be chancers fitting gas appliancs and pipework . lets see what gsr are gonna do (gas safe register) what a mouth full.

boilers fires fittings etc shouldnt be sold to the general public only people with a corgi card or the new scheme

The registration scheme has been an bum from the start. I was originally one of the lobbying groups who was pestering the then ‘elf n safety’ labour mp Angela Eagle. It seemed at the time that it was not necessarily the installers that were incompetent, but our own MP's. They brought in a mandatory system, made it illegal to work on gas. All plumbers etc would have to be licensed. Hang on a minute that will incur extra cost, our rates will have to go up, oh and we will probably get less work, cos the government forgot to make it illegal to buy the stuff in DIY stores. So we were shafted everyway by the government.

Now this is how the scheme worked in Germany in the 80's when I was there with Bosch. You have to be licensed to work on gas or plumbing; you cannot buy a related fitting unless you produce your license. Sorted! Made everything safe and also protected the industry. It is a shame that our government could not do the same, but then again think of all the taxes they would have lost from all those trying to do it cheap.

I left the industry in 1998 as I was disgusted how it went. Sadly I am now considering coming back due to the credit crunch and its effect on my other businesses. But I am beginning to think I will stay away from the gas, after all I don't really know what I am doing, I only served a 4 year apprenticeship with British Gas and worked in the industry for 23 years.

Yours Exhausted !

hi there
i agree but while you have the likes of B&Q and stuff of eBay you always will get people fitting things.

i must admit i am corgi with the compnay i work for in commercial catering but some of the @ that's been there since we took over the shop make you think"🙄🙄how many times have you seen in your local takeaway a domestic cooker in a commercial kitchen then they cannot understand why you will not touch it !😱

The worst culprits are nursing homes went to a ten burner range straford in a nursing home at stoke on trent and the top of the range below the burner was covered in silver paper. the top had rotted through i just disconnected it got a signature the owner got right in my face and threatened violence.

i got out and i aint small said what he cowered down and said what should he do. Without any hesitation made the macdonalds sign and said do you want to go large !😀😀

Needless to say i left the company at the end of the month and went back to good old sparkys work, still now doing all sorts of stuff.

cheers

WHY? How would this help?😕

We want to reduce the amount of red tape not make it worse.

We want to reduce the illegal and unsafe installations more

not much red tape involved, just a quick swipe your gas safe card at till to allow sale to go through 🙂

There is another issue with these diy stores, how many times have you got something from them and a part in missing/wrong,on a gas appliance and the diyer does not know anything is missing, you have a problem
Also they sell hobs at a discount due to knob missing or one burner missing, fires cheap due box open, parts missing, how stupid is this ?

You cannot remove the freedom of choice, If I want to go and buy a car from an auction get drunk and crash it then report it as stollen I can, what can the law do? I must stress that I agree with your comments but this is the way it is. Fortunatley it is only the minority which contraveine the law, if they get caught if they do get get their due

Ps old post is this

Well your argument falls before the law bit
The only freedom of choice anyone has in reality, in this day and age is whats left in the delusional expectations of a systematically eroded human behavioral nature or so me mum says

basicaly we start 'If I want to buy a car'
first you have to know there are cars
Then you have to be able to purchase a car
then you have had to have been told to earn money
then you have to be told how to drive the car
and thats just the start, remove any of the above points and what freedom of choice do you have, you have the freedom of someone else's choice, usually the establishment's above you

And they are quite capable of stopping gas appliances being sold at diy stores,if fact, with a bit of educational manipulation it could soon become everyones preferred choice, forget the freedom bit

Hope you are happy, got a head ache now 😕😉
