Hello guys, I am renewing my storage tank in the loft and the loft hatch is only big enough to fit a tank that is 27x20x20" in size.

I am intending to fit two of these tanks and join them togethar which would give me a 50 gallon tank (227 litres).

Will this size be big enough to feed the hot & cold taps in my bathroom, I have an instant electric shower so the bath is the biggest draw off the tank.

Any guidance on size etc would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.

All the best,
Connor

You can get long skinny 50gal tanks designed to fit through loft openings - Google "coffin tank". These work fine if you have the headroom above the loft hatch as you slide them in.

If you go for two tanks, stagnation can be a problem as TGor says. If you connect them in parallel the water has a habit of taking the easy route and flowing from one tank, leaving the other to become a wildlife habitat. Assuming you don't have unusually high demand I would connect the two tanks in series so all of the water flows through both tanks. Saves on a float operated valve as well.

Either way, if your new arrangement covers more floor area than the old one, don't forget to remove the loft insulation from under the base of the tank.

Best of luck!
