Right so, after advice from this forum I this week completed my CIGA1 commercial Boiler servicing and installation course. I knew I would need it, and went and got it - So thanks to everyone for that.

Anyway, I can now get myself on the GSR, but Im taking on a job in two weeks with a massive national company who are themselves on the GSR.
This being the first time I will have registered commercially with Gas Safe, do I need to do my own registration and then inform GSR of who Im working for.

Basically I dont want to be a subbie to this company, and they dont want me to be either, but with this being my first time do I have to get myself sorted and then inform GSR and get on my companies GSR for insurance etc?

Hope that makes some sense, my head is a bit bashed after this week so please excuse me!

Thanks in advance!

If you apply on line now, you should get your registration through within 2 weeks. Your CIGA1 will probably not have been processed by the assessment verification in time, so this will need chasing up. So although it may not be listed on your new registration at present you still have the recommended pass paperwork from the assessment centre to proove you have been accepted as showing competance, which will be added to your work catagory list when the accreditation body send it through to GSR. If your worried phone GSR on monday.

If you are getting a start with a company there is no need to get your own gas safe registration. This is only required if you are planning to do any work on your own (outwith the employer).
When you start your new job the company will inform gas safe that you are a new employee and you will be added to their registration. It is done and checked through your national insurance number.

What I'm curious to know is if I go through the company GSR, will I still get a guy from GS coming out to check me just as I would if I registered myself? Or does that go out the window, an they just pick people from the company at random over the years?

If you are on the register through a company it will be the companies responsibility to audit your work. If you are not up to scratch they will soon be on your case.
GS will audit the company by picking random jobs which you may never have been on.

Thanks for the replies people.
So basically, it doesnt matter that I have not been commercially regsitered Gas Safe. I will do it through my company, and it will be up to them as such to do my "probation" period as its in their interests to make sure I know what Im doing?
