cutting off water supply

Hi,

I need to cut water supply in my house (Victorian) in order to change taps upstairs in bathroom. I can't see any tap connected to basin, and can not find any tap downstairs. Some of my neighbours have it under floorboard in hall way, others under staircase, but can't find where mine is. Can't contact previous owner and don't want to rip off pieces of floorboard which I've just refurbished. Any idea where to look? Thank you. Miguel.

It would have been a good idea to ask where it was when you moved in but that is water under the bridge.
You can turn it off in the street and when you do fit a valve in an accessible place for future use..

some victorian properties had the stopcock in the space between front door and secondary front door or just behind second door under floorboards HTH!

I can't believe that so many don't ask the following questions when they move house.

Where's the stop tap to shut the water off.
Where's the electric meter and board.
Where's the gas meter and shut off valve. (In case of emergency only)

The number of times I go to a property and get a blank look from the customer.

If you can't find one inside and can't find one outside then speak to your local water authority to locate the external one. But they will charge you for the privilidge.

Yep get it all the time people can't get to it or don't know where the stop tap is?

Me: Off out to the van to get my stop tap spanner and off on a hunt round the street

If it is truly a Victorian plumbing system then you have a cwst and valves in the loft.
If you have a cellar or coal hole then the main stopcock will be down there hanging off of a length of droopy lead pipe.
