Hi all,
My cold water storage tank's ball valve arm has broken, i know this because it wasnt filling up, so i tried moving the arm so it start's filling up, but broke off in my hand.
My question is do i need to diconnect all pipes away and get the tank out (as i cant see inside it, but it's empty).
There is know space around there, i will possibly need to take it out.

And is there any tip's you can give me and what i need to be aware of.
thanks all

Just isolate the mains supply to storage tank and replace the valve

Will i have to take all the tank out and then replace. Or do i loosen the nut outside and then replace from side.

wait a minute mate. If the arm has broken it should fill to overflow as the ball won't rise and shut off. Are you saying it is dry? Is the tank actually in use?

You'll find it much easier keeping the cistern where it is!!

Unfortunately it doesn't sound a particularly easy job. Some of these can be done in about 5 minutes. My last one took me over an hour, just to get access to the ball valve.

If you buy yourself a new ball valve (complete with beach ball), examine it to see which nuts need removing, then remove the old one and replace. Piece of cake for those of us who've done a few but take your time and things should be fine.

That's true, Tackleburger!

Have you run out of water Mani?

Yes the tank is in use and has been for last 10 years. I've had this problem b4 with cwts not filling up. as the arm has been getting lazy lately, i usely move it and it starts filling up again no problem. Today i did the same and it came away. now it's not filling up at all. Could it have seized in locked position.

Hi. If you have enough room to get your hand in to break the arm there is enough room to replace it without major surgery. Sht off, undo union nut that connects pipe to ball valve, then ballvalve back nut. pull valve out and insert new one and repeat in reverse

The cwst is now filling up( water board swithed water off), but not switching off itself. Try having a go with the arm.

sounds easy enough fix to me

part will cost only a few quid and will take around 30 mins if you have not done beofre

just take your time and makes sure you check joints for leaks

Thanks for your help guy's. It was a doddle to do took me 30 mins and that's by taking my time. Used my water pump plier to undo first nut, thats part of the main inlet pipe, then just undone the 2nd nut behind it and replaced.
Thank's guy's.
