day rate from a builder

Hi i've just started doing some work for a builder, which i haven't done before normally i just do my own jobs but not much work at the moment, anyway just wondered what the average day rate is as i would normally charge around £200 a day to clients but can i expect this from a builder, when he asked i told him £160 a day and he didnt hagle which makes me wonder

I would drop my day day rate for regular hours too, £160 a day from a builder is a good rate, depends where you are, and what your doing, if your doing your normal job he'll be saving money if he's got lots of it on, if not it'll cost him by using you as an unskilled labourer. But a plus for your side is you may learn something new.

I do loads of work for a builder. Day rate of £200. He never haggled either. Had he haggled, I would have said no. I won't work for less than that.

That said, I bring all my own tools, experience, insurance and qualifications. Plus I'm good with customers.

I drive out to jobs for him, rip out a bathroom/kitchen and first fix. His guys then come in and do there thing. Then I go back and second fix.

I also install heating systems, etc. For larger things like that, I just give him a price and he puts his profit on top. I invoice him.

I never poach his customers. I've had people try and do that to me when I've sent them on jobs. Its out of order.

Same here.Do alot of work for a builder/chippie.
Day rate is £200.He never haggled either.

I think rural areas (***bria, Devon, Wales, etc) are around £150-£180 a day depending on the trade.

Just to throw something into the mix , apparently a job centre in norfolk is advertising for a heating engineer at ......wait for it NMW . They cant be serious !!!

I've seen that on jobs before. I'm guessing sometimes they're required to confirm that a position meets national minimum wage if they're not going to specifically mention what the wage is.

i saw one last night on the jobcentre plus site:
gas engineer required up to (yes) £7.50 per hour, dependent on experience

well they shouldnt hold their breath waiting for that vacancy to be filled

Surely they wouldnt be advertising it if they didn't think they had a chance of filling it? Maybe things have gotten that quiet for some? £7.50 an hour is better than 2 jobs a week.
