decorative fuel effect fire without the coals

Can a DFE be run without the coles/logs?
I am servicing one anf have flame impingement and the diagram of the coles is not clear so am thinking of doing away with the coals. the fire is a fell romeo16 inch flues gas fire

it must be left working as the manufacturer has designed with all coals in the right place etc..... always best to phone the manufacturer if needed and ask for photos of coal layout or advice on positions.

Definitely not to be run like this without coals.

You need to contact the manufacturer and get the pictures of the coals effect layout to ensure that they are the correct coals & correctly positioned and operation of the fire iaw M.I's.

Failure to do this could would result in operation NOT iaw M.I's and possible generation of CO and you would be bonkers to allow this to happen leaving you wide open to causing injury/fatality & prosecution.

If you cannot clearly ascertain the correct layout of the coals, isolate the fire and advise customer of reasons why, contact manufacturer for clarification.

Advise that worst case scenario if there is no solution then the fire will need to be permanently isolated or removed to ensure the safety of the tenant/homeowner,

As above. I had one a few weeks ago. After cleaning ran it to test without coals just to see flame picture and it was lifting off burner as well as coals missing. Capped it off at custs request as he wasnt happy with it anyway.
