Denso tape on waste pipe join?

When connecting a plastic metric waste pipe from a bath to a metal imperial pipe in the wall is it standard practice to use denso tape on the outside of the join? Does it stop potential leaking or movement?

No it’s not standard or even good practice. Usually a universal coupling and pipe clips for support/prevention of movement.

Thanks for getting back to me. Hoping that denso is being used as a belts and braces approach but seems strange. This is the second bathroom I have seen with this construction method. Wood blocks any better than pipe clips or is this another non-standard/poor practice?

Not better than clips. I have used blocks in the past as retrofit, but even then I try to use clips.
