Hi. I'm Fred. I'm putting in a new electric service, 100 A/240 V. I need to manually thread a 1 1/4" pipe Nominal Pipe Size (NPS). I'm not sure if it is tapered or not tapered. My question is: what size die do I need to threat the pipe? The outer diameter (OD) of this pipe is 1.9". Is that the die size. Thank you very much for any help.

Does the steel pipe have a very thick wall as normally an od of around 1.9 is 11/2 tube

11/4 should measure around 11/2 od

1. If you are based in the USA then pie and dies sizes may well be different from the UK. The thread will probably be National Pipe Thread (NPT).
2. This is a plumbing web site, but it sounds as if you are doing an electrical installation. Threads may differ between steel pipe and what we call conduit (electrical "piping").
3. You should be able to find the information you need on the internet, usually from piping suppliers or tap / die manufacturers.

Thank you for your help. This is proving a bit more difficult that I thought.

No. I am in the US. The pipe is regular pipe NPS (Inner diameter) of 1 1/4". The outer diameter is 1.66". The pipe is thin. Approximately 0.2 inches (0.2").
