Had to replace my kitchen sink waste strainer and have struggled to find a direct replacement. The old fitting is plastic with a screw on top to tighten to the sink. The length is 60mm with a 45mm thread diameter which screws into existing pipework. I shopped around and managed to source a new fitting which is longer (85mm) but thought the thread was the same, however it's actually 45mm diameter. Struggling to work out if there is a way to use this new fitting with my existing pipework. I presume I would need some sort of adapter or perhaps just replace one section of the pipework to allow it to attach to the new diameter of fitting? So much different fittings and have limited experience with piping so hope someone can provide me with some solutions.
Thanks

Sorry Typo. The new fitting is 40mm. Yes think your right, I should of purchased a sink waste. Will return and continue looking.
Thanks
You don't mention the hole size in your sink, but if it's 50mm this sort of thing could fit:

If there's nothing broken on the black waste you already have, I would be inclined to re-use that, and replace the strainer flange, but you need the correct size bolt! M12 35mm /45mm Kitchen Sink Basket Strainer Waste Threaded Screw Connector | eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313666075163
