disused gas supply pipe

Does anyone know if SGN will remove a disused supply pipe free of charge?
I've got a customer who has an old capped off supply coming from the floor of a downstairs room, he says SGN have comfirmed it's dead and no longer used.

I encounter plenty of these, the distributor is not interested in a dead supply.
The supply needs to be capped though.

tell them you smell gas under the floor and they might cap it in the road for you! Having reread the thread, if its dead and they put it in writing, cant you bin it as they must have capped it further back! willing to listen to opinions on this one

It's unlikely to have been capped further back, most likely just sawn off and left.
