If its a 1 bed flat and just radiators the only external controls needed would be a programmer and room stat.
Typically unless the system is large or has underfloor heating there would be no need for any external pump on a combi.

Thanks, and what about any controls like a motorised valve?

Or are pumps and valves just for conventional systems.

I'm trying to spec up a Combi System for a 1 bed flat.

If you don't know, why are you specifying?

Why not let the guy who is going to fit it,specify it. You tell him how you want it to work, and let the installer work the rest out.

Because the people that are I am trying to use are not forthcoming with the information and I get the feeling that they are looking to baffle me.

So it would be nice to get some idea about what I actually do and don't neccesarily need.

That will allow me to make a better judgement about the installer.

Have a look on the Boiler Manufactures web sites, all the information you need about picking the right boiler & what they do can be found on them.

Id perhaps try another installer if you are not happy with what they're telling you.

Also we are not all trying to baffle people and rip people off

Combination boilers have the pump built in and have flow and return connections for the heating. External pumps and diverter valves are normally for system boilers connected to a hot water cylinder.
