Do I need nvq I order to do gas

Evening all I am thinking about doing my gas but I only have my city and guilds level 2 6129 I think. I also have my unvented ticket and Oftec. I have been told though this is not anoth for me to do gas and would still have to take my nvq. This seems pointless to me as surly I have shown competence via Oftec and my day to day work.

I heard a rumour it was changing but not sure how and when.

but you used to be able to do it if you were in a related industry ie pluming oftec or aircon

Cheers rob will have to keep my ears open. I know a few years back you could do it if you had Oftec but apparently they stop that a couple of years ago

They closed that loop-hole a few years back rob.

I am sure you are up to the mark Dave but you must understand that there are a lot of 6129 college only out there who aren't, so NVQ is only way to try to make sure people can at least install pipe etc to standard.

If you have the NVQ you go in as a cat 2, if not then you are a cat 3 & will have to do the Gas Foundation program but please make sure you can get the gas work evidence (working with a GS engineer) before you start it & pay out all that money. (It is something like 70days across the range of work)

Cheers Chris so if I get you right I would be a cat 3. Does this mean I don't need to do the nvq. Getting a gs engineer not to much of a problem. I understand that you need to be able to show you can install pipe work and the necessary but I would have thought having Oftec quals would go some wat towards that
