Hi i have a friend who has a potterton fireside 51 thats just been told the gas valve is done in (pilot on no burner, thermostat working)and that you can't get a replacement for it.

So does anyone know any where that would over haul this or anyone local to motherwell who could supply anf fit an alternative valve (been told that you might be able to fit and alter a different one.

Thanks

Robert

You can only fit what Potterton say you can fit. But I doubt you will be able to get it reconditioned. It needs a new coil and these are usually buried in the valve.

If it's honeywell red/white button or grey button valve you can replace the operator head, 24 or 240v...

You do need to know what you're doing though otherwise BOOM!!! :)

Thanks for the replies managed to get over for a look this morning, the solenoid is away on it, and as to the valve its a Honeywell 2 button but grey and white and double the size of a current Honeywell valve.

Turns out the appliance is around 41-42 years old with the Town gas labels and this is the first thing to ever go on it, pity that the parts are obsolete.

Will need to try and get him a new system on a help\grant scheme (anyone know of any he is 64 and has a partial disabled son).

Thanks

Robert

Make sure they speak to the right person at the local council ! A family with two boys who have special needs were told NO by so many people. In the end the local council had money set aside for a few special grants. They now have a new Worcester boiler and most of the system was renewed as well.
