Guys,

have been to have a look at fitting a domestic boiler in a school today, now is fitting a boiler in a school classed as a commercial job which Ive not got no qualies for or can I get away with doing this as normal under my domestic qualies,

cheers in advance!!
Steve

Surely depends on boiler size & gas pipe size & meter

I can get away with a 24 kw system boiler, as it only heats the hall with 8 rads, there is a 22mm gas supply supplying the existing boiler,

there is no gas meter as its LPG.

Domestic Boiler under 70kW gross, gas pipe which you connect onto after a sectional isolation must be 1 1/4" or less (IGE/UP1B).

Bit of a grey area that's been discussed a few times, with no positive answer. Yes, the installation may qualify as domestic, but the premises aren't. Best consult gas safe if you want a definite answer, although you could probably do it and plead ignorance if ever questioned.

Does the volume of the gas supply not have to be under 0.0035m3 also? Otherwise, how would you perform a tightness test on the installation? Question, not statement.

I guess you could install test point downstream of isolation, but how would you limit your responsibility on the existing installation if there where a fault, existing or created?

your public liability will not cover you, so no insurance, therefore if the unthinkable happens......you know then rest...

Also depends on pipe work runs and routes and valve entry points.

I have had this argument a few times.

But look at it this way..

My domestic gas lets me work on a gas boiler classified up to 70kw gross

My commerical gas is for boilers 70kw to 1.8 mw.

So surely its the other way around.

You are fine doing the install as long as you arent working or testing and purging pipework over 28mm or IV of 0.035

However a commercial gas boiler installer couldnt because he is restricted to working on boilers above 70kw. (Unless he has done his domestic changeover over and cen1)

I fitted a 40kw in a biscuit factory, 5 inch steel pipes but it fed down to 35mm and could be isolated so I could tt my work but I would give gas safe a call though to cover yourself.

My boss recently did this and as a requirement had to jack his pl to 10m or 15m

whichever one it cost him a bomb.

check with the school THEIR requirments for contractors.

Im at maidstone so could i ask which one?
i might of been there for a short time :D

Cheers guys, best call Gas Safe in the morning!

if its a private school ask the bursar their requirements, if its an lea school, min insurabce cover to walk onto premises used to be £10million, and I'd be surprised if they let a sole trader on site without council approval first.

Another requirement for working anywhere near a school is to have a recent crb check, paid for by oneself.

Nice one LP it's the same around here, also on some local authority's copper on main gas runs is a no no, only steel allowed, screwed up to 2" welded above that

Its 0.035m3 quite a large volume if its pipework only no meter. U16 or G10 gas meter is maximum. 35mm pipe maximum. OP21mbar.

Approx 90m of 22mm is under 0.035m3, which wouldn't give enough gas to light a candle

Just picked up its LPG. Maximum 28mm pipe. maximum 0.02m3 volume. BS5482 part 1

i am just re doing my acs just now and they said i can now work on gas supply with is 35mm for purging as before i was only allowed up to 28mm
