Hi everyone,

I'm looking at heading in the direction of gas, I've completed an NVQ3 but didn't do the ACS part (Lazy by me i know!). I think i got comfortable with the company i was with (mechanical company mainly pipe fitting), so didn't really look into getting it. Now though I'm reevaluating my options, i was looking at the college i did my course with, and I'm a little bit confused as to what training i would need. Do i need a portfolio built up for the ACS i missed when i did my NVQ 3? Is it worth getting qualified in all appliances and maybe even look at going into commercial and LPG? The money to get qualified isn't really an issue. Ive been a lurker for a while and appreciate any advice you would be able to provide on the subject.

College I'm looking at is Canterbury tried to put URL to gas Section of it but wouldn't let me post with it.

Kind Regards

Jake

acs as part of nvq3 is rubbish. It gets you nowhere, same as tech certs in plumbing. Just sign for ACS, but find yourself first who will take you on and help you to gain some experience and therefore you can do your portfolio.

Ah sorry i see what you mean i did a full 4 year apprenticeship, so you feel it would be best to ask around to get some experience, getting some of the portfolio ready like pictures, then look at signing up for ACS?

You should have done it at the time but that is by the by.
Go ask at the college or any ACS centre. You can do it as a catagory 2.

Thanks Tamz ill go see what they can do and hopefully speak to my old tutor to see if he guide me in the right direction.

Your old college would probably be your best bet as they will know your work history.
Depending on the stuff you done/are doing with the company you served your time with it might be straight forward enough.
Speak to the guy and he will keep you right.
