Benn a member for a while now and would like to share my experiences with you. I used to work in the Electronics Industry, fault finding and repair that type of stuff , but got paid off a few times, manufacturing on its knees in this country. Anyway got onto a 'training for work' scheme ran by the Government as I was part of a large scale redundancy to do a NVQ Level 3 in Industrial and Commercial Gas Installation and Maintenance and do my ACS at the end of it. Course was 1 yr F/T with 4 months work experience, hard work but enjoyed it.

Got my ACS (Commercial plus domestic Boilers cookers and fires), but been unable to get a start anywhere, the not enough experience/how do I get experience thing. Didn't really have the confidence to go S/E, wrote letters, phone calls applied for jobs nothing doing.

Anyway start of the year decided if I dont get a start I'll get my own Reg and give it a go. Wrote a load of letters in Jan/Feb and got a phone call last week to go for an interview with a company who does my local councils non domestic maintenance (schools, leisure centre etc), the guy was very encouraging, had to speak to the MD would phone me back. Heard all this before so I was sceptical.

Got the shock of my life when the guy phoned me today, to start on Monday. Absolutely made up and had a few to celebrate!! I know the real learning starts next week.

No doubt I'll be back on to pick a few of you commercial guys brains soon.

Bit long winded but what I'm trying to say to guys is stick at it and someone hopefully will take you on.

:):):)
Cheers Lads

Really pleased you have got sorted out and fixed up with a job, hope the new job goes well and as working on schools, ect hopefully will give you a bit of security :)

good luck mate. i was the same . . . done my training with a company and when i finally got my gsr they treated me the same as a plumbing apprentice and wouldnt give me any gas work. searched job centre online and i've been working for a local gas engineering company for 2 months now and really enjoying it! fault finding, servicing and installs each week as oppose to leaking soil pipes and changing tap washers. best move ive ever made
