The water in my dishwasher was gathering in the sump and not draining. I took the filter etc out and the little rubber part which prevents back flow and got to the little wheel which moves the water out and checked for any debris but the water was still standing after 15 mins. I decided to put some drain unblocker down to try to clear the problem but now I don't know if I have done the right thing! The blockage still didn't clear but in worried now about the toxic chemicals being inside my dishwasher. I have ran two empty cycles with a dishwasher tablet and some bicarb at a 70 degree cycle. Is there anything else I can do to make the dishwasher safe to use again or will it be ok to use?

Run a couple of cycles with no chemicals and you should be fine. Dont do it again!

I believe there are propriety cleaners that are approved for dishwashers.

I'd ask my dishwasher but she's not really talking to me at the moment.....

have you ensured the problem does lie with the dishwasher are you sure the waste pipework is not blocked

There is always water in the bottom, nothing to worry about. Mines got water in the bottom too, when I switch it on it pumps it out before putting more in.

Mine only has water in the sump. Shouldn't be above that level, if it's still not clearing check the waste pipe work or hose. (Use gloves if you have put drain cleaner down)

I had half a pistachio but in pump in mine jammed it occasionally..... After two weeks I cleaned out the pump- 39 mins work.

Surely if it was blocked it would have flooded the kitchen by now. They've ran it (which means filling it up?) , to clear it a number of times.
