drain

Can someone help please? My drain ( sewer and storm) periodically blocks up, about i metere from the edge of my boundary where it then joins the main drains, and rsponds to a single rod application; it'll be fine for a few weeks, blocks, gets cleared, might block again within days, then no problem for ages. Don't understand, if there's an obstruction, surely it will block all the time?

would mention that next door have had a drain company out several times (It's only happened over the last 3/4 months) and it seems (but no proof) that mine blocks when they have had theirs cleared - but it's not a shared drain, though they run parallell, vertically down the garden. I don't want to get the drain dug up if it's not necessary - has anybody got any ideas as to cause please?

Thanks

Maybe some wire stuck down there or something stuck in a joint, maybe a bit of plastic or a tree root starting to push through, causing obstruction to build up over a period of time
If happening as you say,get a camera inspection done, check your insurance, maybe if you show them regular bills you maybe covered for cost of inspection

Get a fixed quote first,do your own checks with any insurers first,if anyone suggests cost covered, people will tell you costs covered, just to get work and over charge and then you find it is not
Also if not covered, have a word with neighbour and see if you can work together to go forward and sort problem out

imho

depends what its stuck with my neighbour loves his fry ups and then says i never put fat down the drain and every nowe and again there it is nice white fat lumps

has the pipe dipped in anyway at the point where it's blocking, could be that it has settled over time due to a bad install or loose ground and it just takes it's time to block because of this therefor clearing and seeming to be fine after a rod through. as has been said if your unsure get someone out with a camera to check for any problems
