My 30yr old MegaFlo CL145 apparently needs a new immersion element. It has only been used on rare occasions, when the gas boiler was offline, but now blows the fuse after 20min of operation....

The engineer has just taken a look and says my installation is missing a drain point on the mains-in side, and therefore cannot be drained, i.e. the element cannot be changed. I find this surprising but all my amateur work-arounds were dismissed.

There must be a way to do this. Any suggestions?

Photo below of current mains-in.

Thanks kn advance

1. Doesn't sound like much of an engineer. Was he / she G3 registered and able to prove it?
2. Its NOT a DIY job, must have a G3 registered engineer.
3. But it can be drained via "Reliance" valve and a bit of fiddling around.

Thanks for your input.
To be fair, he was on site for another job (non-pressurized) and it was me that sought his opinion. I am aware of the need for G3 registration and would not even dream of attempting this kind of job myself.
