puzzled by a job i done the other week went to isolate the water via the gate valve in the airing cubourd couldnt find one so went up into the loft to see if i could turn it off from there couldnt find anything.

so i went and turned off the stopcock then ran the cold taps to empty the cistern (no isolation valves on the appliance) nothing no running water i was ecpecting the water from the cwc to drain:confused: dont understand why

another time doing an outside water tap turned of from the stopcock ran taps no water this was a newer house only been up say 15 years at the most so can only assume this had a combi system and dry loft

If you turn off the outside stopcock this turns the water off thats why. Even if they had a cylinder . Most systems are direct cold water though some do have indirect . next time you cant find a gate valve to turn off the hot, simply turn off the cold and drain the header tank through the hot tap.

you worry me pauls.

this iis basic plumbing knowledge,
are you working as a plumber ie, charging for services if so how long and whats your qual's?.
be honest and to yourself then you will get good explanations to help your understanding which in turn will help you.

Like RED says this is very basic stuff, if you cant you work out why this happened should you really be messing around in someones house ?

yes i will admit this was a basic question but i had my reasons for asking it i think i asked before thinkin about it.it happens and i think we have all been there

Hello. I am new to this site and am just checking out what goes on here. Looked at the questions so far and am finding this place interesting.

I have just finished my 6129 in plumbing while also working with a plumber 3 days a week for the past 10 months and am wondering what i can get up to next.

Any good advice out there?

Cheers

hang up the tools, pick up your pen and go to college....and learn what to do
