How do i drain the central heating system?
i need to replace the drayton 3 way diverter valve.
many thanks

Theres a couple of ways Firstly a drain off valve... place the hose onto it and open it up(it also helps if you have a 15mm jubilee clip that can tighten round th house to stop it slipping off the valve. Vent the upstairs first if its a house.......... then vent the down stairs then your good to go.

Failing that you could place a tube of copper into the end of the hose with a nut and olive on the end of it it, then you could isolate a single small radiator lift it off then couple the hose onto one of the valves and place the hose into a drain, open it to drain off the system.

To isolate a radiator you simple turn off one side of the valves by hand..... then the lock shield taking the cap off and using a pair of grips on the spindle to shut it off. When you lift the radiator off the pipes leading to it will be shut off but the radiator will still be full of water to get someone to give you a hand or lift off a small one making sure to plug the tails with your fingers as you lift it off.

I would suggest if your not sure how to drain the C/H system, you shouldnt be attempting to renew the 3 way valve. Hire a plumber and you get the job done hassle free.

also turn off the boiler and all electrics to the heating system you dont want the pump running when the system is drained down
regards
Mike

remember the inhibitors etc,the question is the give away mate,i dont doubt you think you have the capabilities to change the valve...but
Do you have the knowledge to get rid of air locks add the correct inhibitor,to deal with quite a few issues that could pop up, have the wiring knowkedge etc for the size of the job let a plumber do it,you will even get a guaratee

Whereabouts in Wales Welsh lad, I would happily give you an estimate??

Hi Buff, apparently they are looking for a couple milion Euro's to re-start the Swansea Cork Ferry, as a rich Irish Plumber maybe you could help them out and get a discounted ticket. You can bring me a bottle "the crater" with you.
