I have a Glow Worm boiler in my loft, and the above mentioned thermostat that controls when the heating and hot water come on. The thermostat control is in the airing cupboard on our landing, with the thermostat itself on the landing.

Over the past few weeks we've had a number of incidents where the thermostat has gone off (tripped, I assume). The boiler is still on, and when I switch the boiler off and then on again the thermostat starts up again.

As I say, I *think* it is tripping out, but am unsure why. And it does it without warning too!

Any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance

Turn the power off to the heating and remove the programmer from the base plate (2 small phillips screws at bottom) check all the connections on the base plate and the pins on the programmer, refit and see how it goes, you may need a new one as no servicable parts. Many modern programmers use the same type of base plate so can be easily changed (check first) without any wiring alterations.
Good luck, Martin.

Sorry it's taken ages for me to get back, but I thought I had it fixed!

I tried what you suggested, and noticed that one of the wires going into the backplate mounted on the wall was very close to the screw holding the backplate to the wall (and therefore wondered if that was causing the shorting).

Interestingly, the display came on when I took the front off the wall, so there is clearly some means of it still working in a power cut (just not the way I want it to!)

Anyway, I moved the wire so it was away from the screw, put it back on the wall, and all was well for a couple of weeks.

And then it shorted again!

Is there anything else I can try?
