Hi
I live on the ground floor of a small block of flats that has a soil pipe running within the walls. This is boxed in with plywood & plasterboard which is then tiled. So not the best soundproofing (my bedroom is also on the other side of the bathroom wall) so I can hear when the flat above turns on a tap, uses bath & toilet etc.
The last few weeks l have heard loud dripping noises (it wakes me up) after they have used the taps & lasts for about 10 mins after. It sounds like it is somewhere within the wall where the soil pipe is but there is no visible sign of a leak & two plumbers couldn’t see anything (they only took the bath panels off). It is not heat expansion as it happens with cold water as well as hot. Could it be that their bath waste pipe is partially blocked and so although most water runs away the remaining build up of water drips down the inside of the soil pipe (but then why does the sound appear to be above)? I’m about to get in a leak detection specialist but don’t want to fork out £400 if it is just being caused by a partially blocked pipe. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
