Every single general election people only vote for one thing:-
The party that wins will be the one promising the least tax per individual and makes a reasonable case for a fairly stable economy to back this up.
While a good many use schools, quite a few hospitals and so on, most of us have no contact with the police, defence, quangos or anything else so we vote for the thing that does influence us - taxes.
I've thought for a few months that Tories will win the majority (but not necessarily enough to avoid a hung parliament), 2nd Lib Dems and Labour 3rd or perhaps 4th after UKIP.
It wouldn't surprise me if Labour's out for a good decade now as they've had 3 goes at destroying the UK and its society. Remember the good old fashioned banks and building societies? And HMS Britannia? And fox hunting (albeit a contentious issue)? And more recently Cadburys? And treating Royalty and the church with respect? And not trying to keep some of the good old financial names, eg Liverpool Victoria, Norwich Union, Guinness, British Gas, British Rail, British Steel, etc.
For the youngsters, many have huge loans from universities or no job at all if they didn't get to uni. Middle aged remember the late 70's and the strong economy the Tories created and handed over (complete with high unemployment it must be said) and the elderly remember the early 60's(?) when Labour nearly wrecked the country.
I feel the next few years will have the Tories and Lib Dems fighting it between them.
Also, is it only me who reckons the media is trying to create a hung parliament so they can continue to sell news?
Ooops - on a high horse!!
