Evening a mate has house with this set up and needs a new 3 way valve fitted. Been told he needs a Esbe Alz 160. I've no experience at all of working on this type of system, would it be a simple case of draining down and replacing as with a normal 3 port? Or is it best to stay away?
Any advise as always greatly appreciated.

Depends on the system and instalation. The circuit is likely full of gllycol or similar antifreeze so not cheap to refill so ideally need to drain in to containers test the concentration of the antifreeze then pump it all back in.

If its a 3 port on the central heating side and not part of the ground source circuit then it may just be inhibited water but you need to confirm where in the system the valve is what role it is playing and what the circuit is carrying.
