Hi again,
Some of you will remember me saying what kind of gas heating I have, but here goes again... I'm only a 'wee lassie', trying to learn. Anyway, we have an old Baxi Bermuda back boiler with a gas fire on the front.
I would like your opinions please as I keep getting different info when I google. In the summer when we don't have the heating on we have a choice of heating water with gas boiler, or electric emersion. Now, even though the emersion is well lagged (which we were told was sprayed on and looks like thick cardboard mash), some people have said never use it, use the boiler.
We tested the emersion and in just 15 mins it was say hot enough to wash up.
We tested the gas and the boiler was going on and off every minute, so I called gas man came out who said it should last longer. He found a valve in the cupboard where the emersion is, that wasn't open enough. When he'd fixed it he kept testing the boiler and said it was lasting longer, and it would keep going on and off because the pump doesn't work when heating the water up. So he said it would take quite a while to heat it up.
We tried it properly yesterday, and the boiler still seems to go on and off too much.
I timed it, and at first it was on for 1 min 58 secs and off for 48 secs. Then after about half an hour, it was on for 58 secs, and off for 1 min 9 secs. Is this how it should be? After 1 hour it was hot enough to wash up, wash hair etc, but had to wait another half hour before it was hot enough for a bath.
So, which do you think will be cheaper, the gas or electric?
Thanx,
Help4me.
