Supply and fit 8.5kw electric shower (new installation) complete with cable, rcd etc. Put price in for £450 but customer has had quote for £300 for same job how can anyone do it for that price, how much would you charge?

then u say thankyou for your time sorry i cannot do the job at this price and dont know how they can. how much are parts ? is it a single unit or just over the bath.my lasses mum paid someone 100 quid to move bath and put shower on wall then 100 quid to have it tiled but the two jobs overlap somehow and is not yet useable lol so 200 quid there for a non workin shower and tiles.the shower was fitted before the tiles and now the cover doesnt go on the shower as the tiles are around it.

I haven't seen the quote but mine is based a shower approx £120 + rcd shower cu+ 10m/m cable and the labour and a certificate.£450 is a fair price only a man on a horse could undercut it to £300 lol

I think its all down to the quality of the shower, I fitted a Wickes special that the customer bought. I explained the quality etc. They then told me that it was the 2nd shower of that type in 2 years they've had......

I don't think you can explain quality to some people they just want cheap cheap. Same as the cable, if you can get away with 6mm they're happy but fitting 10mm will give them the ability to fit a better quality shower at a later date.

As a new plumber, I'm always told stick to your price, I think thats what you should do. You get what you pay for.

How long are you allowing for this?
10mm cable is a pig to work with, is the run easy? Do you have to do any tiling and chasing? lifting floorboards?

Give us some more information on the job and also breakdown how you came to your price.

Hours (broken down for each task)
shower cost
electrician cost
sundries cost
tiles
cable cost

£450 sounds middle of the road.

Don't get hung up on being the cheapest. I haven't seen the job but £300 seems to cheap to me for a shower that's worth having & installed to a good standard. Explain that to match that price that you'd have to fit an inferior product that you know would cause them problems in a couple of years and that this is not something that you are prepared to do. You walk away with your repuation in tact and a second chance when it all goes wrong.
