I have a Triton Barritz electric shower, which has started to release water from the PRD.

I can buy a replacement PRD from Trition Website, for £10.

Is the fact that the PRD is releasing water a sign that the shower unit is knackered and i have to replace it all ?

Thanks

Did you mean Triton Biarritz

I've had a few Triton showers in my time and found it easier to replace the whole thing once things start to go wrong if the model is still being produced.

In my area its hard water so I just rip out the whole box and put a new one in, including fresh hose and pipes. I've tried making little repairs but usually once things start to go wrong its a snowball effect.

The Pressure Relief Device (PRD) is just that.. A device for releasing pressure and an indicator something has gone wrong - probably in the heating tank. Its releasing water to prevent damage to the tank. But the PRD is a one time job and once the PRD has gone it needs replacing. What you dont know is what caused it to kick in. IF you replace the PRD its likely to go again if the cause is not found. Probably a build up of scale in the heating tank.

Triton are quite good at doing spare parts now so you can go for replacing parts - but I am still a fan of whole unit replacement. Just remember if you do replace the PRD you will need to find the route cause. *(just my opionion)*
