Electric Shower

I'm a spark and i'm putting a new electric shower in my bathroom, pipes n all. I was just wondering if i can use plastic speedfit or do i need to use copper ?

You will probably need to use a compression fitting to connect to the unit. Most showers require this. Just check the manual. Don't forget the inserts aswell

A lot of the time you have to use a compression elbow to connect to the shower. Make sure you use a standard insert in your speedfit pipe for that.(i.e. one that doesn't have an o-ring on it)

Make sure you use a copper olive as well, not a brass one!

Why can't you use the inserts with Orings or brass olives

There are two types of inserts, you need the ones without an o ring, it's to do with Insertion depth in the compression fitting. You use coppers as it compresses better.

As far as I know it's always a copper olive on plastic, I discovered that the hard way

Copper olives always for me, much better bite, never knew about the o ring on the inserts though. Good point.

Insert will depend on what pipe manufacturer. Speed fit pipe, use speed fit inserts(these have o rings on) polypipe use standard inserts (no o rings on insert).

Correct, but you can not use the o ringed inserts on brass compression, you don't have the fully depth otherwise

Standard speedfit insert don't have o-rings on them, it's only super seal that have those in the JG inserts.

Do Speedfit still make the standard inserts??? Everytime I've asked for a bag of inserts recently I've been given the super seal ones automatically.

I prefer Poly Plumb anyway.

Did you know JG Speedfit guaruntee their fittings if they're on another manufacturers pipe. The other manufacturers don't do that. That came from the plumbing merchants a few weeks back. I called JG to confirm it and got it from the horses mouth. Its true.

Tbh I only thought JG did inserts with o rings. Never used compression on plastic pipe.

Really? Only metal ones I've seen are poly or hep.
The jg standard plastic inserts without orings are designed for compression anyway just with copper olives

Unless they were old stock, and are now discontinued. But yes definitely.

I always adapt to copper tube before I go compression. So not been an issue. Can't stand to see compression fittings on plastic pipe.
