Solaredge inverter failure

Hi all.

OK... Let me just try and clear a 1" square space on the screen inbetween all the highly intrusive ads....

On a site (NHS in fact) and they have SolarEdge inverters of which a few appear to have failed. I don't normally touch anything solar (17th edition here.... just doing 18th).

The original installer has walked away and Solaredge refuse to help.

We were asked to find out why they cannot talk to the Inverters over GSM. I think it's because there in concrete boiler rooms with zero GSM signal (and they don't have external GSM aerials fitted).

Basically, the first problem I identified is that a couple of them don't appear to shut down properly.
From what I understand from the manual...

  • Turn off the toggle switch ( 0 position)
  • Turn off the DC isolation switch on the inverter
  • Wait 5 minutes for the DC voltage to drop (no LCD on these models)
  • The red LED should extinguish when the DC is safe
  • Turn off the AC supply

Problem is, a couple of the units never seen to indicate the DC has bled away. The red led stays on and the green led (AC supply I believe) continue to stay illuminated for 20+ minutes.

Therefore, I refused to open these inverters.

Any ideas?
